To Live is to Contract for Loss. ~AC Grayling in 'The Choice of Hercules'.~

Have not watched 'Idol' for a couple of seasons but now that we have the convenience of watching any program anytime (thanks to the tv recorder), we decided to tape the auditions for when we have some free time to kill.

Anyway, I really liked this song when I heard it. Written by one of the contestants, Kate Cook (an abattoir worker) for her mom who committed suicide when she was 16.

For some reason, the lyrics, especially the last line, ricocheted memories of my dealing with my aunt's demise when she took her own life also.

"...it had to be that way."

In my very young mind at that time, I didn't understand why she did what she did; but at some point down the road, amidst my own vicissitudes, I found out that there IS such a thing as insurmountable pain.

For me, I was fortunate. There were friends who carried it with/for me.

For her, no one understood the label 'schizophrenia'. Even if someone did, I suspect there was no place for her world in our society.
